The Law of Attraction has to do with people attracting to themselves what they are in resonance with, in their lives. Teachings, such as the book and movie “The Secret” and the Abraham-Hicks work, teach people how use the Law of Attraction to deliberately manifest what they desire into their lives.
This is an excerpt from a letter I wrote in response to a fellow colleague in New York, about the Law of Attraction becoming so popular because of the “The Secret”:
“I hadn’t even thought in terms of your point about people obsessing over what they are getting, although I can see that it’s a valid concern. I relate more to the concerns of people who have difficulty manifesting abundance and for whom this difficulty gets in the way of what they consider to be their real work or purpose – and for whom solving this dilemma is part of an arduous spiritual odyssey.
My perspective is that the impact of the Law of Attraction has much greater consequences than “I want this and I want that.” The Law of Attraction, when it’s really understood, eliminates the need for war. If each person takes responsibility for creating what is happening in their own life, this eliminates the cause for blaming other people for whatever is not working in your life. Who needs war if you can attract whatever it is you want. And nobody can attract something different for you. It’s an incredibly empowering perspective. It’s the opposite of scarcity. It’s complete abundance. I don’t have to take anything away from you in order to get what I want. And you can’t take anything away from me. We can create our lives exactly the way we want it to be. And when we are able to bring about what really matters to us, then we’re able to create each of our incredible contribution to the world.
But like anything else, in one’s desires there are levels of evolvement, starting at the basest levels of what we want, to the highest levels, which is enlightened self-interest. My perspective is that human evolution has much to do with the evolution of what matters to us, what we want. As we evolve, our self-interest supports the aspects of ourselves that are more evolved. I think it’s important to keep in mind that each person is manifesting what is important to them, and we can’t control that. And we don’t need to once we realize that no one besides ourselves can create anything in our individual lives. So we have to allow other people to create what they’re going to create, with the assumption that all of us are evolving.
What is exciting to me about the energy surrounding the movie, “The Secret,” and other related works is we are all creating a increasingly stronger field where the truth of The Law of Attraction becomes more tangibly real to all of us. This is a major reality shift from the much less empowered ground the world has been standing on. It really is a quantum leap in consciousness and in expectation of what is true and possible. It holds in place that the source of everything is not physical -- but intelligence, intention, emotion, vibration and energy. This is a much more spiritual perspective than the world has previously come from.”
Additional Comment: Many people have trouble using the Law of Attraction to manifest what they desire. That is because what they consciously desire is out of alignment with what their unconscious mind believes to be true. This misalignment occurs when a person makes a limiting decision, such as that they are not good enough, they are not worthy of good things, there is not enough, life is hard, and so on.
A limiting decision is an NLP term used in NLP TimeLine counseling sessions to mean unconscious decisions, made in early childhood, that are some form of that life doesn't work, and usually that there is something inherently wrong with you. Limiting decisions are never true. NLP TimeLine counseling sessions facilitate clearing limiting decisions, which releases the negative patterns in your life that are caused by them.
